Peru-sing for opportunity

World Trade Center Utah had a blast leading the state’s top mining ecosystem companies on a high-impact business trip to Peru to connect with industry leaders, participate in B2B matchmaking sessions, and attend Expomina Peru.

During the trip, the delegation engaged with key Peruvian leaders, including the President of Congress, the Minister of Mining and Energy, and the Minister of Trade and Tourism, as well as various mayors, representatives, and the former Honorary Consul of Utah. These discussions highlighted Peru’s significant role in the global mining sector and revealed numerous opportunities for collaboration.

The delegation also explored the historic Pachacamac Ruins, experiencing Peru’s rich culture, and forged new connections at a business roundtable with the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru and local mining companies. Together, we struck gold in global relations!

INDUSTRY FOCUS AREA: mining ecosystem

The Peru business trip is open to Utah companies within the mining ecosystem. This extends beyond traditional drilling and excavating companies to encompass all industries essential to the life cycle of mining operations, including the transportation sector, which ensures the efficient movement of critical materials; supply chain management firms that coordinate the complex logistics required to support mining activities; and environmental management services that contribute to sustainable practices. Companies engaged in any aspect of this broad network are encouraged to apply.

WHY PERU?

With a tradition stretching back to pre-Inca civilizations, Peru’s mining industry has remained integral to its economy and a key driver of its development. As a leading producer of copper, gold, silver, and zinc, the region has emerged as one of the world’s top mining hotspots — in 2022, Peru garnered over $5 billion in mining investment that spanned infrastructure, equipment, exploration, development, and more.

Today, the Peruvian government is actively working to improve the investment landscape and attract foreign capital. Along with ease-of-entry and low start-up costs for foreign entities — Peru is an attractive destination for Utah companies looking to expand into the South American market. The country’s abundant mineral resources, strategic location, and robust infrastructure make it an ideal environment for mining operations and related industries.
