Spring Global Advisory Board Meeting
With special guest Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed of the U.S. Small Business Administration at the helm, we placed a spotlight on the ways Utah companies are scaling their businesses beyond our borders at our Spring Global Advisory Board meeting.
Syed shared insights and answered questions on competing in international markets, identifying solutions for Utah businesses, expanding the reach and access of the STEP grant program, and championing business development among underserved communities.
His experience as an immigrant and entrepreneur uniquely prepared him to serve as a special representative for commercial and business affairs at the State Department and assume his current role.
While in town, the deputy administrator led a packed schedule, meeting with banks, entrepreneurs, and STEP Grant recipients who experienced catalytic results in scaling their businesses with the grant.
Dilawar Syed, Deputy Administrator at the U.S. Small Business Administration
Prior to his nomination to the SBA in 2021, Dilawar Syed championed American businesses as Special Representative for Commercial & Business Affairs at the State Department. There, Syed advocated for U.S. companies to compete and win abroad and helped ensure U.S. competitiveness in markets across the globe.
Before joining the Biden Administration, Syed was CEO at Lumiata, an AI healthcare company focused on reducing healthcare costs and improving patient outcomes.
